Karoshi Portal is a little fangame of Karoshi that I have been working on. It features 30 levels. Special thanks to Yagru for the music and to Jesse Venbrux for making Karoshi!

Controls: Arrow keys to move left and right, Z to jump, X to shoot, R to restart a level. Escape to go to the menu. Use mouse to select levels on the menu.

It was really nice to discover this game. I played Karoshi as a teenager and really liked it.

Besides the little glitches with the portal mechanics, I have a few design comments:

  • The occasional level name like "r to restart" should be a different color or maybe something like #0077FF (azure). Blue with a black outline is hard to read since blue looks innately dark.
  • Level 8 and 9 are really nice puzzle levels, probably my favorite, and Level 16 is a fun joke level.
  • Level 19, the one with the 'no music' sign, I thought you had to go and mute the game. I never discovered the idle animation.
  • The sticky goo doesn't mechanically seem on-theme with Karoshi IMO. I think it's too see-through as effectively a death block, when the fantasy of Karoshi is using the one death block (spikes) as progress instead. I would have used teleport blocks to set back progress in the rocket levels instead, which could also have created more opportunities for puzzles in the standard puzzle platformer levels.
  • It was rude that there was a passageway in Level 21 after the spike. I thought there'd be an easter egg for going that way instead :P

Thank you sir. I appreciate all the feedback. Level 21 has 2 different routes, one easy and one hard, so yeah, you might think it's a route to an easter egg but it's just the 2nd entrance that leads to the spike. Thanks for playing and commenting!

My speedrun time was 10:21. A lovely tribute to Karoshi, thanks for making it.

thankyou my good man!

Instructions please.

Also, if it's keyboard controlled why do I need to use the mouse to start the game?

most of the controls are written in the game, but I'll add them to the game description now also.

I had the menu mouse-controlled, because that's the way the original Karoshi game was... but I have been thinking of letting the player use the arrow keys to use the menu also.
